Sleep Habits - Are You Affected?

Our bodies require a lot of energy in order to function properly. Eating the right foods can give us a lot of extra boost so we can get things done but sleep - that is an entirely different story. Sleep recharges our power cells after the fuel has been spent. It seems easy to think that simply doing one little thing like changing how you sleep can change your weight loss efforts right around.

Being able to simply sleep is just one part of the battle of the bulge. Your actual habits can be changed to make better use of your time. The following is some of the things that can be changed once you begin sleeping better - sleeping more effectively.

  1. Try going to bed just one hour earlier. It seems simple enough and that is because it is as easy as that. Just think about it for one moment. If you get to bed one hour earlier every night that means you will wake up an hour earlier as well. You can use that hour exercising. You can grab a shower and eat a real breakfast too and never be late for work. It is a fact that if you exercise before work you generate endorphins that make you feel good. When you feel good you will perform much better at work.
  2. It is hard to get to sleep early for some people. Try eating something that is high in tryptophan like turkey.  Tryptophan is a chemical that is found in some birds that causes you to get sleepy. Turkey is also high in protein which works to generate energy while you are asleep. You may also try listening to soft music as well as exercising before bed. Both can lull you to sleep fairly easily.
  3. I know it is hard to wake up early to exercise. It is hard to wake up because you haven’t properly slept in the first place. If you can get yourself into a cycle of getting to sleep at the same time every night and waking up at the same time every morning your body will begin to change and you will be able to fall asleep a lot easier as well as wake up.
  4. Those who exercise on a regular basis - nearly every day - are those who can wake up earlier and do it in the morning before their day “officially” begins. They lose weight a lot faster (along with a great diet), feel healthier, their work is greatly improved and they are generally happier.
  5. Waking up in the morning an earlier can have you working out every day. This is a great component to losing weight. You do not have to have hardcore workouts. Save those workouts - like Tae Bo - for two times a week. The other exercise periods can be decent stretching exercises, light weight training, low-burn cardio vascular aerobics, yoga or even just a walk around the block a few times or a mile or two jog on the treadmill.
  6. Your eating habits will also have to change to meet this new regimen. Waking up earlier means you can eat better for yourself and eat for your exercise plan. Foods high in protein can get your motor running. Avoid fatty foods and bad carbohydrates like potatoes and bread. Stick to things like turkey bacon, egg beaters and soy milk for your breakfast. Peanut butter is also a great source of minerals and vitamins that will help your body generate enough energy in order to function properly on your new plan.
  7. Vitamins and minerals are always a sure fire way to make sure that your body is not lacking in anything that is essential to a healthy life. A good complex vitamin that is geared to your gender and age will provide you with all those good things you require.

Waking up an hour earlier, as you can see, can yield you tremendous results with your exercise plan as well as helping you to form better eating habits. I know this all may sound farfetched or just too simple, but it really quite is. So what if you happen to miss an hour of television a night - it will not kill you - I promise. If you think that hour of television is too important to miss then buy a Tivo system or a digital video recorder.
